I have a UV filter that's come loose from its housing and now rattles every time it moves. Is there any way to fix this without messing it up?

I would try to contact the manufacturer and see if they have any advice. A DIY solution might be to wedge something small between the class and the housing, but I would be very careful with it.

Of course, this brings up the question of whether you even need UV filters. For digital, there's no benefit in terms of image quality, as digital sensors are not susceptible to UV light the same way film is. If anything, it will decrease image quality because it's another (usually lower quality) piece of glass that the light has to travel through.

The only argument for UV lens filters is protection of the lens, though I would personally opt for insurance over a lens filter.

The only reason I have the filter is for the extra safety. Since this seems like a good topic for discussion, I whipped up a new question here: photoqna.com/questions/264/… – Craig Walker Jan 25 at 17:02
Looks like it's turning into a good discussion. Good idea! – tghw Jan 25 at 18:50
